Bikes are a simple solution to traffic troubles, pollution problems, health issues, and tons of other things.
More and more of us are relying on bicycles to get around these days and the worldwide bike-to-work club is constantly expanding.
Even still, the limited carrying capacity of a bicycle is a turn-off for many who might otherwise use their bike everyday. As soon as we’ve got something our bike can’t carry, we abandon the idea and opt for another way to get around. Bummer.
At Bakkie, we want to make the cycler’s life easier. With our bags you can carry a multitude of things, even big stuff, even the unexpected. Just like your bike, our solution is simple, affordable, and durable.
Check it out. A few examples of what you can do with a Bakkie Bag:
Carry your shopping bags. And if you forget your bags, you can always load up boxes!
Pick up a package that’s too big for your traditional saddlebag or pannier.
Carry musical instruments – guitar, banjo…
Tow or carry a child’s bike to pick them up from school in the afternoon (even if you drove in the morning). Or, if you’re on a ride that’s a bit too long or a road that’s a bit too busy for your little one, they can hop into their seat on your bike while you tow theirs, depends on the chid’s bike size, more infos
Carry your laptop safely in a water-resistant bag that cushions and protects.
Take a different kind of bike trip. Carry your backpack rather than loading up your saddlebags. If you feel like taking a break from the bike and hiking for a couple days, you’re ready to go!
Try it out! As with all panniers, you must be able to pedal without the bag getting in your way.
To make sure everything will work right, it’s easy – use our guide and try it out.
You need a longer rack. We can give you some tips and advice on Bakkie-ready bag racks. Just ask.
Each Bakkie can handle a weight of 20 kg (44 lbs). However, you need to follow the weight limits of your own bag rack and bike. Most modern bag racks are in-line with the certification PR NF EN ISO 11243 10.2016 and can handle a weight of 27 kg (59.5 lbs).
16- to 20-inch bike: A bike this size can be towed. A child’s seat can also be added to the larger bike if the bag rack is long enough (i.e., the Steco Power Safety 35kg). In the photo above, the child’s seat is for children five years and older (therefore, without footrests).
12- to 14-inch bike: Difficult to tow because of the limited distance between the front wheel and the pedals; the pedals may rub against the back wheel of the larger bike. Given their small size, you can tie them IN the Bakkie, as long as they don’t have training wheels. In this case, we recommend that you do not have a child’s seat attached as well.
Contrary to trailer bikes and bikes with tow bars, the child cannot stay on his bike when a Bakkie is towing it.
